3/22 Services Temporarily Suspended

Beloved Church,

Our holy and loving God is working out His sovereign will to glorify His name and gather His elect from every nation, even through this global pandemic that has stirred such fear among men and nations. As God’s people, we are free from the fear of death as we walk by faith in Jesus Christ, who is the resurrection and the life. The Session has deliberated how we might honor God by faith in answer to this virus, Governor Cooper’s executive order, and the recommendations from both the CDC and the White House.

After carefully weighing both tables of God’s Law, to love Him with our whole being above all others and to love our neighbors as ourselves, we have concluded that suspending our worship services and other community activities (ABF/Sunday School, Covenant Group, Youth Bible Study, Men’s Bible Study, Ladies’ Bible Study, Senior Bible Study, and Choir) is most glorifying to God and loving to our neighbors in the present circumstances, as our nation works together to contain the spread of COVID-19. It grieves us to suspend our congregational worship as this is a heavy affliction upon God’s people whom we are appointed to serve. Yet, even in this affliction, we entrust our souls to the good purpose of our holy, loving Lord, praying with the Psalmist, “It is good for me that I was afflicted, that I might learn Your statutes” (Psalm 119:71).

How can we learn from this affliction?

  • Meditate on the unique gift of corporate worship (Psalm 84:10; 122:1; Heb. 10:25)
  • Examine yourself for unconfessed sin, religious declension, loss of love, lukewarm affection (2 Cor. 13:5; Gal. 6:1-4)
  • Examine the Church for the same (Rev. 2-3)
  • Consider God’s fatherly discipline (Hebrews 12:3-17)
  • Beseech God for the repentance of our nation and for the nations of the world

The Lord’s Day is still our Christian Sabbath. We are to consecrate the whole day to a holy resting in God. Devote yourselves to prayer, Bible reading, meditation, and personal and family worship. We plan to have Pastor Mock deliver his ABF lesson on Facebook live on Sunday morning at 9:30.  It will then be uploaded to Sermon Audio.

If you have questions, concerns, or prayer requests please reach out to your Shepherding Elder, a Pastor, or the church office.

May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you. May the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace.

Your Servants in Christ,

Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and how inscrutable His ways!
For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been His counselor? Or who has given a gift to Him that he might be repaid?
For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be glory forever. Amen.
